UIC Associate Professor, Adrienne Massanari quoted in WSJ
The Wall Street Journal quotes Adrienne Massanari, UIC associate professor of communication, in an article about Reddit taking down nearly 2,000 forums for rules violations, including a popular subreddit group for supporters of President Trump, and issuing stricter policies against harassment and targeting. Massanari, who has studied the site, notes that the “The_Donald” community had also been home to racist content and—on occasion—calls for violent action that violated Reddit’s policies. “The virality and what it was producing was incredibly powerful in terms of shaping the online conversation in a conservative sphere,” she said. https://on.wsj.com/2ZrTgj4 (subscription required).
