About

Nour Mheidly is a PhD candidate in the Department of Communication at the University of Illinois Chicago and a researcher in health communication, media literacy, and global health. She holds a BA in Media and Communication from the American University of Beirut and pursued an MA in Communication and Education at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Her primary research focuses on linking social sciences to medicine and public health. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she developed the “Infodemic Response Checklist,” as a comprehensive tool to improve mitigation efforts against the spread of wrongful information on COVID-19. She also studied the mental health effects that result from extended telecommunication and online activities during the lockdown period. Furthermore, she analyzed the effect of face masks on interpersonal communication during the pandemic, highlighting new ways to overcome challenges. In addition, she conducted bibliometric and thematic analyses that explore health communication research in the Arab world and low-income countries, quantitatively and qualitatively, to find strategies that help improve health outcomes in the future. Nour’s research endeavors led to several scholarly publications and numerous citations. Her findings were presented at national and international conferences exploring the role of media and communication in global public health.
