Mariah L Wellman
Mariah Wellman is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Prior to joining UIC, she received a Ph.D. in Communication from the Department of Communication at the University of Utah.
Wellman’s research interests include technology, influence, and wellness. She is particularly interested in how popular users within digital wellness communities build credibility with audiences. She also studies the online activity of women with the BRCA genetic mutation, a project funded by the National Institutes of Health. Her work has been published in journals like New Media & Society, Feminist Media Studies, Health Communication, Journal of Media Ethics, Rhetoric of Health & Medicine, and Social Media & Society.
